This week has been a deliciously simple one at Tall Poppy HQ. And it’s had me out in the sun this afternoon reflecting on where/how this feeling of deep deep peace and contentment has come from. Here’s what I came up with: parallel to my business (and personal beliefs) I have given myself permission to let go of all sorts of ‘stuff’ lately in order to clear a few obstacles between where I am right now and where I would like to go. The key to this new-found willingness to let go?
Getting turned on!
Yep! You read that right lovely! And I don’t just mean what comes to mind automatically when thinking ‘turn me on’… you know that delicious sexual/sensual connection that does indeed ring the bell so to speak, I mean everything in my life that makes me smile, makes me feel centred and grounded and glowing with that delicious little spark. Paying attention to these things in life, making space for them, nurturing the feel good factor, amplifies even more of what you would like, and helps to balance out the stuff you don’t really want to keep seeing.
So here’s my Top Ten Turn Ons …
At this time of the year I turn into a lizard, cooler weather and shorter days has me seeking sun at every opportunity. Vitamin D + feelgood factor makes for a very happy Kylie even if it’s just 10 minutes per day. Cup of tea in the sun after school drop off is my non-negotiable minibreak each morning.
2) Top chicks
The power of us women is astounding, don’t you think? I am super grateful that my life is full of down to earth top chicks: Mums from school, my Mastermind mavens, old time friends I have not seen for years. Each and every one of them shows me a wonderful warm woman, and my deep love and appreciation for them grows with every laugh, triumph and tear shared.
Being Oriental Medicine trained, I generally avoid juicing and green smotthies through July and August until the weather heats up. This is because, for some people, in the cooler months lots of raw and cold produce can cool down the stomach ‘fire’ and make your digestions sluggish (read feeling heavy and suffering yuck skin!). This is certainly the case for me. BUT what I do still take to cover my body’s deeply ingrained need for a big dose of daily greenery is a good quality Super Greens supplement – my current fave contains chorella, spirilina, and wheat grass. Energy and cellular zing in a glass once a day! yum!
4) Time in Nature
Having spent time in the USA, my exercise routine has been patchy to say the least. Now we are back, I have taken to 10klm walk along the river in the mornings with a spunky friend – nothing like the first rays of sun hitting your back to make you feel on top of the world. Thank goodness, the regular moving has me back to feeling full of beans again!
5) Letting Go
There has been an ever-growing need in me for some time to feel like I am “making progress” (here I was thinking I was a RECOVERING control freak!?) and increasingly that feeling and the long business to do list I had growing was making me feel a bit on edge. Definitely NOT COOL for a Delicious Life Advocate. So what to do? Instead of holding on tighter, I let go. Stopped tracking a to do list and started measuring my day’s success on how I feel, not on how much gets done. Letting go makes space for solutions you can not dream of, and that has been the case for me too! yay!
6) My Man and Our Little Ladies
Goodness Gracious I am one lucky chickadee! Seriously, sometimes I want to pinch myself to check that this is MY LIFE, my family, my home. I have been really conscious of creating space and one on one time with all 3 other members of the Poppy Pride lately and geez doesn’t that make a difference. The whole energy of any house can change when everyone is really heard, really respected, really valued. I knew my family my highest priority, and yet my time management was not reflecting this. So I blocked out evenings for family, we’ve been heading out on the boat for a fish, and taking time out to play in the sun. And voila! Back to being a calm and centred family unit …. LOVE!
7) Meditation
I am doing Deepak Chopra’s 21 day meditation challenge again this year, and although meditation has been a daily commitment for a while now, the guided meditations form a fantabulous structure around spending time investing in your own spiritual peace. The divine flow and even mood which is the inevitable result is sooooo worth the effort to carve out time from our ‘busy-ness’!
8) ME time
For an extrovert like me, I can be easy to forget that I need time by myself, down time, time out. And lately I’ve been entirely selfish about my me time. It recharges me, makes me feel like my self again, without the demands of chatting and of doing. And without me time, I find myself caught up int he day to day instead of checking in for my own answers…bliss!
I have been going nuts in the kitchen lately. Inspired to find gluten and sugar free recipes the entire family loves, we have been diving deep into three new cookbooks: Love Your Waistline Love Your Food by Jules Clancy at www.stonesoup.com who follows a generally paleo food reference and has some awesome no BS tips for naturally finding your ideal weight and controlling sugar cravings! Gluten Free Grain Free Food We Love by Tania Hubbard – you can see a yum Almond and Chia Bread recipe we tried this week here. And lastly Food Matters: The Recipe book… let’s just say if you have not seen the movie Hungry for Change, you need to take a peek! I’ll be inviting you into our kitchen for more kitchen shennanigans weekly.
10) Kinesiology
A-mazing for releasing old beliefs and negative mindset, straight form way down deep in your cellular level. As a new convert to kinesiology, I have been gobsmacked at the impact of just the first session or two for feeling a massive & super dooper good feeling shift in your psyche … and therefore reality. Think of it as positive affirmations at the cellular level. mmmmmm! If you are a Sunny Coast local, I highly recommend Elizabeth Hughes Kinesiology!
So that’s it sweet people. My Turn On list, my ‘go to’ things for my Delicious Life.
Here’s to YOUR delicious life!
How about you – what are the things that turn you on?
